Smartphones and tablets have become part of daily life for most people, whether the use case is work, personal errands, or simply passing time. That means installing app after app, and that collection tends to keep growing. As it does, hunting down and clearing out apps you no longer need gets tedious, especially if you're the type who installs and uninstalls things frequently to try them out. This article walks through ways to keep your Android apps organized.

Huawei does something similar on its own AppGallery.
These categories help while you're searching for something new, but once an app lands on your device, Android gives you no built-in way to organize it further. That's not a dealbreaker most of the time, but it can cause mix-ups — for example, you might install an app without realizing you already have several others on your phone that do essentially the same thing.
Worth noting: the category assigned to an app is chosen by its developer, not by Google or Huawei.
So where does Revo Uninstaller Mobile fit into all this?
Revo Uninstaller Mobile, a third-party app by VS Revo Group, is mainly known as an uninstaller, but it also has its own app-categorization system. That means it can show you a breakdown of how many apps you have and what kinds, and it lets you customize each app's category for a setup that fits your habits. Note that this only applies to apps you've installed yourself — not the system apps that come pre-loaded.
You can get Revo Uninstaller Mobile from the Google Play Store
Once you open the app, you'll see a scrollable row of pre-set categories near the top, each showing a count of how many apps fall under it.
By default, the app shows everything you have installed because the "All" category is selected. Tap any specific category to filter down to just those apps. Tapping a second category adds its apps into the current list, and tapping a selected category again removes it from the filter.
Categories can be managed as a whole, not just app-by-app. Select one and a small blue button with a white gear icon shows up in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
Tapping that gear button gives you a few options:
- DELETE CATEGORY removes the category entirely after you confirm, moving all its apps into the OTHERS category; this feature is available even in the free version of Revo Uninstaller Mobile;
- RENAME CATEGORY lets you give it any name you like, aside from names already used by the built-in categories; if you try renaming it to something that already exists (say, Photography), Revo Uninstaller Mobile will let you know the name is taken; if you still want an app filed under one of the built-in category names, use the option described below instead;
- MOVE TO OTHER CATEGORY shifts every app in the selected category over to a different, existing one; suggestions pop up as you type.
Note that the "Others" category can be renamed, but it can't be deleted outright.
To make a brand-new custom category or shift an app to a different one, tap the app itself, then tap either Manage Category or Select Category, depending on whether it already has a category (Manage Category) or is currently listed under "Others" (Select Category).
Type a category name and Revo Uninstaller Mobile will suggest matching existing categories as you go. Tap a suggestion if you spot the right one, or finish typing your custom name if not. Tap APPLY to confirm.
Keep in mind the Free and PRO versions of Revo Uninstaller Mobile don't offer the same level of control. PRO gives you full access to everything described above. The free version is more limited — it only lets you move certain apps (specifically ones its algorithm couldn't confidently categorize on its own), and only between two of the pre-set categories.
If you'd rather not see categories at all, you can turn off the category bar entirely from the app's settings: open the side menu, tap Settings, then switch off the Category Bar option.
